How to Ask Questions About a Course PDF With AI
Asking an AI tool to “explain this PDF” often produces a smooth answer that is hard to check. A better study workflow is to ask narrow questions, require evidence from the file, and keep a record of what the document does not establish.

The corrected answer is less fluent but more useful. It separates observation from explanation and records the missing variables.
Use a bounded prompt
You can adapt this prompt to any AI assistant your course permits:
Answer only from the supplied pages. For every sentence in the answer, give the page or section that supports it. Label each point as directly stated or inferred. If the file does not provide enough evidence, say so and list the missing information. Do not add outside facts unless I request a separate background section.
Then ask the tool to challenge its own draft:
Which words in your answer are stronger than the source? Which conditions, units, dates, populations, or exceptions could change the meaning?
These prompts do not guarantee accuracy. Verify in the original PDF
For every important answer:
- Open the cited page yourself.
- Check whether the quote or paraphrase refers to the right subject.
- Confirm units, dates, sample, conditions, and exceptions.
- Inspect the relevant table, figure, footnote, or equation rather than relying on extracted text.
- Mark any background explanation that came from outside the document.
- Revise the answer until each claim has an honest status.
